About CTYS: What's New
They take the time to figure out what is bothering you, instead of telling you what is wrong. They don't make you feel like you're just a bad kid.

Transgender Defender:
CTYS' FIT Guide a 24 Hours Coverstory

24 Hours, the Toronto Sun's free daily newspaper carried a story on the Families in Transition Guide which was recently published by CTYS.  In Toronto and Ottawa the story was a full-page cover story, in Calgary the story was also mentioned on the cover.  CTYS is excited to see the widespread support being demonstrated by the community and media for trans youth and their families.

CTYS launches new publication:

Families In TRANSition

A Resource Guide for Parents of Trans youth

Families in TRANSition: A Resource Guide for Parents of Trans Youth is the first comprehensive Canadian publication to address the needs of parents and families supporting their trans children. Families in TRANSition summarizes the experiences, strategies, and successes of a working group of community consultants – researchers, counsellors, advocates, parents, as well as trans youth themselves. The guide is generously funded by the Lesbian & Gay Community Appeal and General Reinsurance Company.

CTYS a Champion Against
Homophobia and Transphobia

CTYS's Pride and Prejudice Program has been named a 2008 recipient of the "Champions Against Homophobia and Transphobia Awards" by PFLAG Canada.  Champions Against Homophobia is a national initiative to recognize Canadian individuals and organizations who through their efforts to confront homophobia and/or transphobia, have fostered a greater acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit, intersex, queer and questioning persons (GLBT) and their parents, friends and families.

The project aims to acknowledge and celebrate the many individual and coordinated contributions that have inspired and encouraged Canadians to take positive steps toward ending prejudice and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

CTYS is pleased to receive this recognition of our continuing efforts to support and advance the cause of sexual- and gender-diversity in our community.
